Archaeologists for the Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs will be hosting an identification and documentation session for artifacts found on Lewes Beach Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004 from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

The session will be held at Zwaanendael Museum located at the corner of Savannah Road and Kings Highway in Lewes.

Area beach enthusiasts began finding hundreds of pieces of broken pottery, glass and other artifacts on the beach in recent weeks, prompting professional and amateur archaeologists to begin surveying the area.

State officials are asking people who may have collected artifacts from the beach to bring them to the Museum so a detailed catalog of the artifacts can be compiled.

The State Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs will accept donated artifacts, but will not confiscate any artifacts brought for identification, according to a news release.
