A 20-year-old Lewes man died Nov. 16 after fleeing one crash, nearly causing another and running his car off the road near Long Neck, according to Delaware State Police.
Police said Bradly Downs was driving a 1982 Mustang on Long Neck Road, where he was involved in a car crash, and fled the scene. Downs then traveled onto Sussex Road 298 and almost struck another car head-on, police said. He then turned eastbound on Route 24 and eventually lost control of the Mustang. The Mustang then traveled off the south edge of roadway and struck a mailbox, fence, and tree. The crash occurred at about 9:05 p.m.
Downs, who had not been wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger in the Mustang, James McNulty, 32, of Lewes, who also was not wearing a seatbelt, was flown to Christiana Hospital, Stanton, and admitted in critical condition with head trauma.
The crash remains under investigation.
