Bethel and Seaford Roads near Seaford were closed for about four hours on Friday, July 2 while Delaware State Police investigated a report of a suspected "pipe bomb," which was later determined to be a switch to activate flashing signals for railroad tracks.

Police were called to the area, near the Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks, after two 13-year-old boys said they saw something "suspicious" partially buried in the rocks near the tracks.

Members of the Delaware State Police Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit (EOD) and a representative from Norfolk Southern Railroad responded to the scene, and determined that the device was a switch. 

Bethel Road and Seaford Road were re-opened at approximately 12:30 a.m.
