Delaware State Police have arrested three suspects who allegedly caused more than $41,000 worth of damage at seven businesses and two homes in the area of routes 54 and 20 east of Selbyville. The crimes occurred between the evening hours of Jan. 6 and the early morning hours of Jan. 7.
On Jan. 6, at approximately 11:25 p.m., troopers responding to a criminal mischief complaint at European Coach Werkes on Route 20 found that 14 vehicles had been damaged, causing more than $30,000 in damages.
The suspects had smashed out windows and cut canvas tops on the vehicles. A witness reported that the suspects were white males operating a dark-colored hatchback.
On Jan. 7, at approximately 7:43 a.m., troopers responded to the another criminal mischief complaint in the same area and discovered that six more businesses and two homes had been vandalized. The suspects had spray painted graffiti on vehicles, boats, and structures, and they also smashed out several car windows. The suspects also drove through a lawn at a private home, damaging it.
The damage from these crimes totaled approximately $11,780. The suspects are also accused of stealing approximately $750 worth of property from the businesses and homes. While the suspects were committing these crimes, a second witness observed a small dark-colored hatchback at one of the businesses that had been vandalized.
On Jan. 10, the vehicle used in the first incident was spotted at a home in Selbyville, and later identified as belonging to the mother of two of the suspects. A third suspect was also identified.
On Jan. 11, state police detectives responded to Indian River High School and arrested a 16-year-old male student. He is charged with 13 counts of criminal mischief, three counts of conspiracy, two counts of theft, nine counts of painting graffiti, and five counts of criminal trespass. He was committed to the Stevenson House in default of $4,100 secured bond.
On Jan. 12, state police detectives arrested Andrew J. Driscoll, 23, of Bishopville, Md. Driscoll was charged with 12 counts of criminal mischief, three counts of conspiracy, two counts of theft, nine counts of painting graffiti, and five counts of criminal trespass. Driscoll was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $2,665 secured bond.
The third suspect, Kevin M. Carter, 18, of Teaberry Circle, is currently in custody in Maryland. Kevin Carter faces the same charges as Driscoll once he returns to Delaware.
