A Pennsylvania teen was killed in a crash on Route 26 near Clarksville in the early morning hours of July 4.
According to Delaware State Police a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta operated by Alana Kulp, 18, of Sellersville, Pennsylvania, was traveling eastbound on Route 26 west of Clarksville, when Kulp failed to negotiate a turn, crossed the center of the roadway and hit the left front of a 2003 Toyota Sequoia, operated by Sean Huffines, 34, of Salisbury, Md., which was traveling westbound on Route 26.
The Volkswagen then drove off the roadway and struck a tree. Kulp was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger, Jeffrey Zonko, 17, of Selbyville, was transported to Peninsula General Medical Center, Salisbury, Md. and admitted in critical condition. Both Kulp and Zonko had been wearing seatbelts, but were ejected from the car, according to reports from the Millville Volunteer Fire Company, which responded to the scene, along with Sussex County Paramedics and the Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Company.
Sean Huffines and his passenger, Anita Huffines, 45, also of Salisbury, Md., were treated for minor injuries at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seafore, and released. Both had been wearing their seatbelts.
Route 26 was shut down from the St. Georges United Methodist Church to Holt's Landing Road until 5 a.m.
