The Vikings nearly rallied for an upset of the defending Division II state dual meet champions in a nonconference season-opener on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003.

Trailing 33-21 entering the final three matches, Cape scored decisions by Travis Dorman at 135, Ray Tartal at 140, and Nick Albanese at 145.

The Vikings led 16-12 before Smyrna bolted ahead with a technical fall, major decision and two pins from the 112 to 130 matches.

Cape took its lead on a decision by Kyle Kng a t152, a major decision by Brian Riggin at 171, a pin by Bobby Hopkins a 189, a decision by Andy Bradley at 275, and a technical fall by Ryan Arnold at 103.
