2003-2004 Laurel Boys' Basketball Schedule

Smyrna 75, Laurel 68 (OT)

The Bulldogs suffered their third straight loss and their first loss in the Henlopen Conference on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004.

In falling to 3-1 in the Southern Division and 4-3 overall, the Bulldogs battled all night against upstart Smyrna.

Laurel turned a 28-23 halftime deficit into a 42-41 lead after three quarters but couldn't make the advantage stand.

Troy Elzey and Trey Elzey combined for 37 points for the Bulldogs, with Troy scoring 20 of those points. Jeremy Bagwell chipped in with 9 points.

Germantown Academy 63, Laurel 50

The Bulldogs suffered their second consecutive loss in the Slam Dunk to the Beach Tournament on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003.

In falling to 4-2 overall, the Bulldogs got 31 points and 18 rebounds combined from brothers Trey and Troy Elzey, with Trey scoring 16 points and collecting 8 rebounds and Troy adding 15 points and 10 rebounds.

They couldn't contain 6-foot-9 center Andrew Ott, however, as the Germantown sophomore totalled 24 points and 11 rebounds. Germantown's Ryan Ayers, a 6-6 junior who is the son of 76ers' head coach Randy Ayers, added 16 points and 13 rebounds.

Richard Penn and Chris Horsey added 7 and 6 points, respectively, for Laurel. Each nailed a three-pointer.

Potomac (Md.) Bullis 63, Laurel 46

The Bulldogs failed to hit the 50-point mark for the first time this year as they suffered their first loss of the season in the Slam Dunk to the Beach Tournament on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003.

The Bulldogs made a game of it in the third quarter as they cut a 29-16 halftime lead to 40-33 entering the fourth period. Bullis took control again in the fourth, however, to drop Laurel to 4-1 overall.

Trey Elzey led the Bulldogs with 20 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocked shots. Troy Elzey contributed 12 points and Jeremy Bagwell added 8 points.

Laurel 80, Cape Henlopen 75

The Bulldogs started the annual Slam Dunk to the Beach Tournament with a victory on Friday, Dec. 26, 2003.

After trailing 32-29 at halftime, the Bulldogs, now 4-0 overall, began to slowly take control in the second half behind brothers Trey and Troy Elzey.

Trey Elzey finished the game with 26 points and 16 rebounds despite early foul trouble, while Troy Elzey added 15 points and 19 rebounds.

Laurel's dominance inside was evidenced by the fact the Bulldogs took 41 foul shots to Cape Henlopen's 15.

Also in double figures for the Bulldogs were Jeremy Bagwell and Chris Horsey with 15 and 12 points, respectively.

Laurel 59, Milford 48

The Bulldogs pulled away in the fourth quarter to remain unbeaten with a Henlopen Conference Southern Division triumph on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003.

Laurel held a 34-32 lead over Milford before outscoring the Bucs 25-16 in the fourth period.

Trey Elzey and Troy Elzey combined for 40 points, with Trey scoring 22 and Troy 18.

The Bulldogs will now put their unbeaten mark on the line in the annual Slam Dunk to the Beach tournament at Cape Henlopen High School.

Laurel faces Cape on Friday, Dec. 26, at 10 a.m. and meets Potomac (Md.) on Sunday, Dec. 28, at 8:30 a.m.

Laurel 72, Woodbridge 57

The Bulldogs took command of the Henlopen Conference Southern Division contest with a strong third quarter on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003.

Ahead 31-27 at halftime, Laurel outscored Woodbridge 24-6 in the third period to put the game away and rise to 2-0 overall and in the Henlopen South.

Two Bulldogs scored 20 points, with Trey Elzey netting a game-high 22 and Richard Penn contributing 20. Troy Elzey added 14 points.

Laurel 53, Indian River 49

The Bulldogs opened up a double-digit lead in the first quarter and held on for a season-opening Henlopen Conference Southern Division win on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003.

Laurel went ahead of Indian River 17-6 after the first quarter and still held a commanding 41-30 lead after three quarters. The Bulldogs then held off an Indian rally down the stretch.

The Bulldogs put three players in double figures, with Trey Elzey scoring 15 points, Richard Penn added 14, and Troy Elzey contributing 13.
