The Lower Sussex Little League kicked off plans for its hosting of the 2004 Senior League Softball World Series with the help of Delaware Gov. Ruth Ann Minner.

The Series will be held from Aug. 15-21 at the Lower Sussex Little League complex in Roxana.

Similar to the Little League Baseball World Series held every summer in Williamsport, Pa., the Senior League Softball World Series will host teams from the U.S., Canada, Asia, Europe and Latin America.

The District III champion from Sussex County will also participate as the host team.

The Lower Sussex Little League is seeking sponsors and volunteers to help with the event. So far, Bear Trap has offered housing for the teams and Allen Foods has offered its sponsorship.

Gov. Minner met with the World Series committee, Sussex County officials and Little League volunteers and pledged state support for the event. "Put on your volunteer caps," she told the gathering.

More information about the Series and volunteering can be obtained by calling 302-537-0700 or visiting the Lower Sussex Little League web site.
