Caesar Rodney 76, Sussex Central 57
The Golden Knights suffered their second consecutive loss with the Henlopen Conference Northern Division defeat on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004.
In falling to 4-3 overall, Central got 16 points from Tia Felton and 11 points from Candice Shockley.
Mardela (Md.) 64, Sussex Central 61 (OT)
The Golden Knights lost to the hosts in the championship game of the Mardela Tournament on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003.
The Golden Knights led by as many as 10 points in the game and still held an 8-point advantage before Mardela closed strongly to send the game into overtime.
The Knights led 56-52 with less than a minute to play in regulation but missed 5 free throws in the fourth quarter while Mardela made all 10 of its foul shots in the final period and overtime.
Central, now 4-2 overall, forced overtime on a three-pointer by Danielle Blake.
Tia Felton and Candice Shockley paced the Knights with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Canesha Gibbs and Blake contributed 9 points apiece and Sara Lawrence added 7.
Sussex Central 65, Delmar 34
The Golden Knights continued their best start in years with the victory in the first round of the Mardela (Md.) Tournament on Monday, Dec. 29, 2003.
The Knights rose to 4-1 overall with the victory as they built a solid lead before closing Delmar out with a 17-4 advantage in the fourth quarter.
Tia Felton and Brittany Cox sparked the victory with 20 and 12 points, respectively. Candice Shockley and Sara Lawrence contributed 8 points apiece.
Seaford 59, Sussex Central 55
The Golden Knights lost the Henlopen Conference Northern Division game but gave themselves a big confidence boost with the near upset on Friday, Dec. 19, 2003.
The Knights became the first Sussex County opponent to come within single digits of Seaford in four years, since Cape Henlopen lost 48-39 to Seaford in the 1999-2000 season.
The margin of defeat was the slimmest for a Sussex County squad against Seaford in at least the past five years. Seaford beat Central 83-31 last season.
Central trailed 34-21 at halftime and 46-36 after three quarters but behind freshman Tia Felton, who scored 15 of her 30 points in the fourth period, pulled within 52-49 with 2:45 left in the game but couldn't get any closer.
Also in double figures for Central were Candice Shockley and Sara Lawrence with 10 points apiece. Felton sank 3 three-pointers.
The Knights are now 2-1 in the conference and overall.
Sussex Central 50, Polytech 49
The Golden Knights survived a scare at the end when a last-gasp Polytech shot rolled off the rim on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003.
The Henlopen Conference Northern Division victory was sparked by Tia Felton, who finished with 13 points.
Sara Lawrence and Shanette White added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
