2003-2004 Seaford Girls' Basketball Schedule
Seaford 85, Cape Henlopen 45
The Blue Jays snapped a two-game losing streak in rolling to the Henlopen Conference Northern Division triumph on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004.
In rising to 4-0 in the conference and 5-2 overall, the Jays stormed to a 42-22 halftime lead over Cape Henlopen and never looked back.
Ashlee Burbage and Roniece Williams sparked the victory. Burbage scored 25 points, while Williams chimed in with 19. Keosha Gibbs was also in double figures with 12 points.
Seaford 59, Sussex Central 55
The Blue Jays continued to find the going much tougher this season but they remained unbeaten with the Henlopen Conference Northern Division nail-biter on Friday, Dec. 19, 2003.
The victory was Seaford's closest call against a Sussex County team in at least five years and the first time a Sussex County opponent has come within 10 points of the Blue Jays since a 48-39 win over Cape Henlopen in the 1999-2000 season-opener.
Among all of those lopsided victories was an 83-31 triumph over Sussex Central last year.
On Friday, the Jays took a 46-36 lead into the final quarter but saw Central claw back to within 52-49 with 2:45 left in the game before regrouping down the stretch.
Now 3-0 in the conference and 4-0 overall, the Jays were led by senior guard Roniece Williams' 20 points and senior guard Ashlee Burbage's 19 points. Williams sank 4 three-pointers.
Angie Owens came through in the clutch as she scored 7 of her 11 points in the fourth quarter.
Seaford 56, Caesar Rodney 52 (OT)
The Blue Jays remained unbeaten with another come-from-behind victory on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003.
In rising to 2-0 in the Henlopen Conference Northern Division and 3-0 overall, Seaford had to overcome a 10-point deficit in the first quarter.
After falling behind CR 14-4, the Blue Jays battled back to pull within 21-20 at halftime and then engaged in a see-saw second half in which the lead changed hands 11 times before the teams settled for a 47-47 tie at the end of regulation.
Ashlee Burbage and Roniece Williams sparked the comeback with 16 and 15 points, respectively. Ashlee Dean added 12 more points.
Seaford 57, Dover 47
The Blue Jays got a scare before putting away the Henlopen Conference Northern Division game on Friday, Dec. 12, 2003.
Seaford trailed 20-13 after the first quarter but quickly reversed their fortunes to lead 30-27 by halftime. The Jays then took control with a five-point edge in the third period.
Ashlee Burbage and Angie Owens sparked the win with 15 and 14 points, respectively. Gibbs added 10 more points as Seaford rose to 2-0 overall.
Seaford 41, Tower Hill 40
The Blue Jays started their season with a nonconference victory in the first round of the A.I. DuPont Tiger Tipoff Classic on Monday, Dec. 8, 2003.
Seaford scored only four points in the second quarter and seven points in the fourth quarter but managed to overcome Tower Hill with 5 three-pointers, including three by senior guard Roniece Williams.
Senior guard Ashlee Burbage added 9 points.
The Jays advance to the championship game, which will be played at a time and date to be announced due to the postponement of the tournament from last weekend's snow storm.
