The three incumbents seeking re-election to the Dewey Beach Town Council defeated two challengers on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003.

Alice Walsh, Ellie Mayhew and Patricia F. Wright easily defeated challengers Robert Frederick and David Main to retain their seats on the town commission.

Here are the vote totals in the election, which had been postponed for two weeks because of Hurricane Isabel:

• Walsh, 594 (457 absentee and 137 by voting machine);
• Mayhew, 581 (445 absentee and 136 by voting machine);
• Wright, 571 (440 absentee and 131 by voting machine);
• Frederick, 404 (296 absentee and 108 by voting machine); and
• Main, 356 (256 absentee and 100 by voting machine).

Wright has been mayor of the town for the past year; Frederick was mayor for eight years before losing a bid for re-election last year. He and Main, an attorney, had campaigned as a team in this year's election.

The commissioners will be sworn in and the mayor and secretary elected at the town council meeting on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 9 a.m. Also on the agenda:

• Bottle and Cork expansion;
• Discussion an ordinance extending the moratorium on conversion, dedication or declaration of existing motels or hotels; and
• Discussion of a conditional use application by Coconuts Waterfront Restaurant.

The meeting will be held in the Dewey Beach Life Saving Museum, 1 Dagsworthy Ave., Dewey Beach.
