From YourSITE.com Towns The Georgetown Historical Society will hold its sixth annual Civil War Weekend on Saturday, July 31, and Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004 at the Marvel Carriage Museum at 510 S. Bedford St. Soldiers from the North and South form encampments in the "Marvel Village" for the weekend, performing military formations and drills and providing a glimpse at life during the Civil War. The soliders skirmish both days at 3 p.m. Besides the encampments, there will also be children's games, fashions, schooling and other examples of Civil War life. Period music will be presented by The Camptown Shakers, who will perform minstrel music both days. Arts and crafts, books, and other gifts will be available. Guest speakers include Marvin Schelhouse, who will speak on "General Alfred T.A. Tolbert" at 1 p.m. on Saturday. There will also be special church services at 9 a.m. on Sunday and a candlelight tour of the camps will be held at 8 p.m. The Milton Lion's Club will offer lemonade, cold drinks and ice cream and the Greenwood Volunteer Fire Department will offer roast beef sandwiches and scrapple sandwiches. Gates open both days at 8 a.m. Admission is $3 for adults (age 12 and older) and $1 for children. To reach the grounds, go to the intersection of U.S. 113 and Sussex Road 431 (at the DelDOT building) and head toward Georgetown on South Bedford Street. The museum is .6 mile on the left side. All traffic must then turn left on to Arrow Safety Road to enter the parking area.
