The most noteworthy race in Delaware this year is to replace outgoing governor Thomas R. Carper, who leaves after two terms to seek the U.S. Senate seat of long-time incumbent William V. Roth.
Ruth Ann Minner has wrapped up the Democratic nomination for governor, while William Swain Lee of Lewes and John Burris of Milford will face off in a Republican primary in September. Burris handily won a straw poll of 344 state Republican delegates in May.
The most significant part of the gubernatorial elections this fall is that all three candidates hail from Sussex County, with Minner and Burris living near Milford and Swain Lee in Lewes.
