F. Gary Simpson won another term in the 18th Senatorial District with a double-digit win over political newcomer John Burton.

Simpson garnered 8,875 votes, or 57.4 percent of the vote, to Burton's 6,594 votes, or 42.6 percent of the vote.

Simpson, a 55-year-old Republican from Milford, has served in the state Senate since 1999.

His main campaign issues were smaller, more efficient government, quality education through school reforms, and environmental standards to protect the inland bays and coastline.

Burton, a 61-year-old Democrat from Lewes, said during the campaign that he would work for managed growth, quality education, affordable health care, protecting the environment and family farm, and streamlining government.
