General Election 2002

14th Representative District
Republican Primary

Michael A. Meoli of Rehoboth Beach handily defeated Harry W. "Hap" Crystal in the Republican Primary for the 14th Delaware Representative District on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002.

With all seven voting districts in the new 14th district reporting, Meoli, a Rehoboth businessman, had 884 votes to Crystal's 575 for a winning percentage of 60.6% to 39.4%. Crystal did win two districts.

Meoli will now face Democratic Party challenger Peter C. Schwartzkopf of Rehoboth Beach and Libertarian Party challenger Everett Wodiska of Rehoboth Beach in the Nov. 5 general election.

"I feel good," said Meoli. "It's been a good day. It was a good race. Hap was a super opponent. We ran a good, clean race. I'm going to rest tomorrow and start up early Monday against Pete Schwartzkopf."

This is Meoli's first attempt at public office. He owns McDonald's restaurants in Rehoboth and Georgetown and the Hampton Inn in Rehoboth.
