Over Bullock |
Democratic Primary In a surprisingly easy victory, Donald L. Ward of Millsboro beat long-time friend Lynn Bullock in the Democratic Party primary for the 41st Representative District nomination on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002. Ward, endorsed by outgoing Rep. Charlie West, defeated the former Millsboro mayor with 67.3 percent of the vote, or 697 votes to Bullock's 339. "I'm really gratified about the win and about the people having spoken and spoken loudly," said Ward. "The fact that we won every district says something about the hard-working people that have been out there spreading the news. My next goal is to try to bring some unity to the party." Ward got started quickly on the campaign against Atkins. "I think now our message is one of qualifications," Ward said. Ward, a retired educator and owner of a real estate developing company, had been the 41st District's chairperson until West decided to retire from politics after 26 years in the state House. Ward will now face Republican nominee John C. Atkins, also of Millsboro, in the Nov. 5 general election. |
