St. Mark's 35, Cape Henlopen 12
The Vikings concluded their season with a 2-8 record with the loss to unbeaten St. Mark's on Friday, Nov. 14.
Cape scored all of its points in the fourth quarter on a 25-yard run by Stephen Shockley and a 90-yard kickoff return by Kevin Scott.
St. Mark's finished its regular season at 9-0 and was expected to be the top seed in the Division I state tournament.
Dover 19, Cape Henlopen 14
The Vikings put up a fight before bowing to favored Dover in a Henlopen Conference Northern Division game on Friday, Nov. 7.
The loss dropped Cape to 2-7 overall.
Caesar Rodney 37, Cape Henlopen 15
The Vikings suffered their fourth straight loss in the Henlopen Conference Northern Division defeat on Friday, Oct. 31.
Playing the Northern Division co-leaders, Cape fell behind 20-0 before a 58-yard run by Stephen Shockley cut the gap to 20-7.
The deficit would be 30-7 by halftime, however, as the Vikings surrendered a 62-yard touchdown pass and a 34-yard field goal after allowing CR to recover a kickoff following the TD pass.
Shannon Hall tacked on Cape's final score with a 6-yard run and a two-point conversion run in the fourth quarter.
Shockley paced the Vikings with 105 yards rushing on 10 attempts.
Cape is now 1-3 in the North and 2-6 overall.
Sussex Tech 31, Cape Henlopen 0
The Vikings couldn't capitalize on the promise of the previous week's effort in the Henlopen Conference Northern Division loss to Sussex Tech on Friday, Oct. 24.
In suffering their third straight loss and their first by shutout this season, the Vikings fell t0 1-2 in the Northern Division and 2-5 overall.
Sussex Central 14, Cape Henlopen 6
The Vikings suffered a tough Henlopen Conference Northern Division loss at Sussex Central on Friday, Oct. 17.
In falling to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in the Henlopen North, the Vikings committed three critical turnovers that either led to Sussex Central points or cost the Vikings points.
First, the Vikings fumbled the ball away at the Central 46 late in the first half, and the Knights converted for a 7-0 lead with 2:41 left before halftime.
An interception at the Cape 48 led the Central's second touchdown and a 14-0 lead, and another interception at Central's 1-yard line kept Cape out of the end zone until the fourth quarter.
Running back Stephen Shockley accounted for Cape's only score when he took a screen pass from quarterback Josh Barkauskie 73 yards with 1:42 to go in the game.
In addition to the touchdown reception, Shockley finished as the game's leading rusher with 119 yards.
Cape Henlopen 12, Seaford 7
The Vikings snapped a two-game losing streak with a win in their Henlopen Conference Northern Division opener on Friday, Oct. 3.
Rising to 2-2 overall, the Vikings scored the winning points early in the fourth quarter when Stephan Shockley broke loose for a 90-yard touchdown run after a Seaford punt appeared to pin the Vikings down at their own 10-yard line.
Shockley's dazzling burst put Cape ahead 12-7 and would be all the points it would need.
Another big offensive play gave Cape its first points, as Kevin Scott broke a couple of tackles on a 65-yard touchdown run for a 6-0 Viking advantage.
Seaford then recovered a fumble on the Vikings' next possession at the Cape 17 to lead to its only touchdown.
The Vikings rushed for 177 yards in the game while holding Seaford to 83 yards of total offense.
Glasgow 27, Cape Henlopen 7
The Vikings dropped their second straight nonconference contest on Friday, Sept. 26, to fall to 1-2 overall.
Cape started the game strong with a 55-yard interception return for a touchdown by safety Dustin Hobbs.
Glasgow, however, would score twice in the second period for a 14-7 halftime lead and then ice the game with a pair of fourth-quarter TDs to remain unbeaten at 3-0.
Christiana 42, Cape Henlopen 6
The Vikings dropped to 1-1 overall with the nonconference loss on Monday, Sept. 22.
Cape fell behind 28-0 before Omar Johnson scored from 5 yards out. Johnson carried 8 times for 56 yards of the 74-yard drive and finished the game with 93 yards.
Shannon Hall rushed for 66 yards and caught a pass for 44 yards.
Cape Henlopen 18, Laurel 6
The Vikings, under new head coach Sean Brennan, stunned the highly regarded Bulldogs in their nonconference season-opener on Friday, Sept. 5.
In doing so, Cape returned a favor to Laurel, which shocked the Vikings in their 2002 season-opener by a 41-13 score.
Coming off a state tournament season, Laurel was heavily favored but Cape shook off a Laurel threat in the third quarter to score 12 unanswered points in the fourth period.
Putting behind memories of last year's 2-8 record, the Vikings recovererd a Laurel fumble at their own 10 with the score tied 6-6 in the third period.
Cape then marched 65 yards on 8 plays, including a pair of unsportsmanlike penalties against Laurel, to take a 12-6 lead on a 12-yard run by Dustin Hobbs.
The Vikings then put the game under wraps in the fourth period on an 8-yard run by Stephen Shockley.
Shockley caught a 34-yard touchdown pass from Brian Riggin to give Cape a 6-0 lead in the second quarter.
The Vikings gained 207 total yards on offense while holding fourth-year quarterback Andy Hartstein of Laurel to just 12 yards passing. Hartstein threw for 18 touchdown passes last season.
Kevin Scott led the Cape ground game with 51 yards on 8 carries, while Hobbs added 48 yards on 10 rushing attempts.
In addition to the costly Laurel penalties on the game-winning touchdown drive, the Vikings also took advantage of four Bulldog turnovers.
