The Vikings' season ended with the loss in the state tournament
Final Four at the Unviersity of Delaware on Wednesday, Nov. 12.
Cape completely dominated the second half but couldn't get the
ball past Caravel goalie Megan Manubay. Caravel scored the game's only goal in
the final minute of the first half.
Cape led 10-1 in shots and 12-0 in penalty corners in the second
half, but its season ended at 14-4-1. It was the second time the Vikings lost to
Caravel by a 1-0 score this season.

Cape Henlopen 2, Lake Forest 1

The Vikings turned the tables on the regular season Henlopen
Conference champions to return to the state tournament Final Four after a
one-year absence with the victory on Saturday, Nov. 8.
Cape won the game on a goal by junior Amanda Haxton with 2:31
remaining in the first overtime.
Dominique Scott gave Cape a 1-0 lead with 12:39 remaining in the
first half, but Lake tied the game on a goal with 6:58 to go in regulation.
Cape goalie Nicole Rhoades saved the day for Cape, which was
outshot 17-11. Rhoades stopped 11 shots.
The state semifinal appearance will be the first for second-year
Cape head coach Gretchen Wyshock. The Vikings will face Caravel, which beat Cape
1-0 on Oct. 11, at the University of Delaware's Rullo Stadium.
Cape lost the conference title to Lake Forest in a 2-1 defeat on
Oct. 14.

Cape Henlopen 2, Brandywine
1
The Vikings scored two second-half goals to secure the first round
victory in the 2003 Delaware High School Field Hockey Tournament on Wednesday,
Nov. 5.
The Vikings, seeded 7th, got a goal from Dominique Scott with
20:34 left in the game to go up 1-0 and another goal from Amanda Haxton with
9:04 remaining to seal the win.
Now 13-3-1, the Vikings advance to a quarterfinal matchup with
Henlopen Conference champion Lake Forest, the No. 2 seed, on Saturday, Nov. 8,
at a site and time to be announced.
Despite the close score, Cape completely dominated the game with
advantages of 20-2 in shots and 26-5 in penalty corners.
The Henlopen North champions, the Vikings lost to Lake Forest 2-1
on Oct. 14.
Brandywine finished its season with a 12-4-1 record.
Cape Henlopen 2, Sussex Tech 1

Samantha Coveleski's goal with 4:21 left in overtime lifted the
Vikings to the Henlopen Conference win on Thursday, Oct. 23.
After playing to a 1-1 halftime tie, Cape and Sussex
Tech were scoreless throughout the second half.
Lisa Williams scored the Vikings' goal in the first half and
assisted Coveleski on the game-winner.
The Vikings are 11-3-1 overall.
Delmar 2, Cape Henlopen 0
Any hopes the Vikings had for a Henlopen Conference championship were dashed
by the shutout loss on Tuesday, Oct. 21.
Cape and Delmar tied 13-13 in shots and Cape led 10-6 in penalty corners, but
the Vikings couldn't cash in on their opportunities.
Goalie Nicole Rhoades recorded 7 saves for the Vikings, who slipped to 9-2 in
the conference and 10-3-1 overall.
Cape Henlopen 1, Milford 0
The Vikings won the Henlopen Conference outing in overtime when Amanda Haxton
scored off of an assist from Lisa Williams on Monday, Oct. 20.
The Vikings dominated the contest as they outshot Milford 19-4 and held an
18-1 advantage in penalty corners.
Goalie Nicole Rhoades had 2 saves for the shutout as Cape improved to 9-1 in
the conference and 10-2-1 overall.
Cape Henlopen 4, Dover 3
The Vikings withstood a furious Dover rally in the game's final six minutes
to snap a two-game losing streak on Friday, Oct. 17.
Cape jumped out to a 4-0 lead but barely held on as Dover scored all three of
its goals in the final six minutes.
The Vikings took their lead on two goals by Lisa Williams and a goal apiece
from Dominique Scott and Danielle Renken. Brittany Jackson contributed an
assist.
The victory raised Cape's records to 8-1 in the conference and 9-2-1
overall.
Lake Forest 2, Cape Henlopen 1
The Vikings dropped their second straight game on Tuesday, Oct. 14, but this
one proved especially damaging as it gave Lake Forest a big step up in the
Henlopen Conference championship race.
Cape lost the game when Lake Forest scored with just 2:20 remaining. The loss
dropped the Vikings to 7-1 in the conference and 8-2-1 overall and left them a
game behind both Lake and unbeaten Caesar Rodney entering the final two weeks of
the season.
Lake, meanwhile, improved to 10-0 in the conference and 12-0 overall. The
Spartans face Caesar Rodney on Tuesday, Oct. 21. CR is 9-0 in the conference and
10-0-1 overall.
Against Lake Forest, the Vikings fell behind in the first half but quickly
recovered to force a 1-1 tie with 12:28 left before halftime on a goal by Amanda
Haxton. She was assisted by Danielle Renken.
But Cape couldn't keep up with the Spartans, who led 14-6 in shots and 10-3
in penalty corners. Cape goalie Nicole Rhoades finished with 4 saves.
The win was Lake Forest's first over Cape since 1988, which was also the last
time Lake won the conference championship.
Caravel 1, Cape Henlopen 0
The Vikings suffered their first loss of the season in a nonconference game
on Saturday, Oct. 11.
Cape out-shot Caravel 20-17 and held a 23-5 advantage in penalty corners, but
couldn't find the net.
Cape goalie Nicole Rhoades recorded 11
saves.
Cape Henlopen 3, Seaford 0
The Vikings remained unbeaten in the Henlopen Conference with the win on
Wednesday, Oct. 8.
Sparked by a goal by Amanda Haxton with 2 seconds left in the first half, the
Vikings took command in the second half on goals by Lisa Williams and Dominique
Scott.
In rising to 7-0 in the conference and 8-0-1 overall, Cape got assists from
Brittany Jackson and Danielle Renken.
Cape visits unbeaten Lake Forest on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at 4 p.m. in a game
that will likely determine the Henlopen Conference champion. Lake Forest was
10-0 after beating Delmar 4-1 on Thursday, Oct. 9.
The win ended a three-game unbeaten streak for Seaford.
Cape Henlopen 4, Middletown 1
The Vikings broke open a 1-1 halftime tie to record a nonconference victory
on Saturday, Oct. 4.
Cape trailed 1-0 in the first half before Lisa Williams knotted the score off
of an assist from Sam Coveleski with 1:42 left in the half.
The Vikings then put its dominance on the field -- Cape outshot Middletown
28-5 -- on the scoreboard with a pair of goals by Amanda Haxton and another by
Coveleski.
Williams and Dominque Scott added assists and goalie Nicole Rhoades
registered 4 saves.
Cape is now 7-0-1 overall.
Cape Henlopen 3, Laurel 2 (OT)
The Vikings used the third of Lisa Williams' three goals to secure an
overtime Henlopen Conference win on Wednesday, Oct. 1.
After Williams' first two goals staked Cape a a 2-0 halftime lead, the
Vikings had to go into overtime when Laurel scored two goals in the second
half.
Now 6-0-1, the Vikings dominated the game with a 16-4 advantage in shots and
a 10-2 edge in penalty corners, but they couldn't secure the win until Williams
scored with 5:17 left in the overtime period.
Williams was assisted on the game-winner by Amanda Haxton.
Cape Henlopen 0, Wilmington Christian
0
The Vikings battled to a nonconference tie on Monday, Sept. 29.
Cape led statistically with a 10-8 edge in shots and a 9-5 advantage in
penalty corners.
Goalie Nicole Rhoades helped preserve the tie with 5 saves.
Cape Henlopen 6, Polytech 0
The Vikings posted their second straight shutout win and tied their
season-high for goals with the Henlopen Conference victory on Thursday, Sept.
25.
Cape outshot Polytech 23-1, with Brooke Bennett leading the barrage with two
goals and Amanda Haxton contributing a goal and two assists.
The Vikings' other goals were scored by Dominique Scott, Mallory Talbot and
Lisa Williams. Cape led 18-2 in penalty corners.
Cape Henlopen 2, Smyrna 0
The Vikings dominated the Henlopen Conference game from start to finish.
Behind a goal apiece from Dominique Scott and Sam Coveleski, the Vikings held
a 12-2 advantage in shots and a 17-4 advantage in penalty corners.
Goalie Nicole Rhoades recorded 2 saves for the shutout.
Cape Henlopen 3, Indian River 1
The Vikings jumped out to a 3-0 lead and cruised from there for the Henlopen
Conference win on Tuesday, Sept. 16.
Cape took its lead on goals by Laura Olenderski in the first half and Sam
Coveleski and Lisa Williams in the second half.
Cape outshot Indian River 13-10 and held an 11-6 edge in penalty corners.
Goalie Nikki Rhodes posted 4 saves, while Ellery Matthews recorded 2 more.
Cape Henlopen 1, Sussex Central 0
The Vikings thoroughly dominated the game but had to go into overtime to
record the Henlopen Conference victory on Thursday, Sept. 11.
Amanda Haxton scored the game-winner with 4:55 left in overtime on an assist
from Lisa Williams.
Cape outshot Sussex
Central 21-1 and led 9-2 in penalty corners but couldn't make its
opportunities pay off.
The Vikings are now 2-0 in the conference and overall.
Cape Henlopen 6, Woodbridge 2
The Vikings got off to a fast start with a season-opening Henlopen Conference
victory on Tuesday, Sept. 9.
Behind two goals apiece from Laura Olenderski and Lisa Williams, Cape
dominated the game from start to finish.
Amanda Haxton and Dominique Scott also scored for the Vikings, who led
Woodbridge
27-4 in shots.
Goalie Nikki Rhoades stopped two shots for Cape.
