2003 Boys' Soccer Schedule

Wilmington Charter 6, Cape Henlopen 1

The Vikings' season ended with a first round loss in the 2003 Delaware High School Boys' Soccer Tournament on Tuesday, Nov. 4.

Seeded 9th, Cape fell behind No. 8 Wilmington Charter 2-0 before Alex Gurdini cut the deficit in half with a goal midway through the second half.

The Vikings unravelled after that, though, as Charter reeled off four unanswered goals in the final 20 minutes of the match.

The Vikings trailed 14-10 in shots and 6-2 in corner kicks. Goalkeeper Steve Fabian stopped 10 shots. Cape finished its sesaon with an 11-3-2 record.

Cape Henlopen 1, Wilmington Christian 1

The Vikings finished their regular season with their second consecutive nonconference tie on Wednesday, Oct. 29.

Alex Gurdini scored Cape's goal at the 38:15 mark of the first half. Wilmington Christian then tied the score in the second half.

The Vikings concluded their regular season with an 11-2-2 record and await word on the state tournament.

Cape outshot Wilmington Christian 14-12 but trailed 9-4 in corner kicks.

Cape Henlopen 1, McKean 1

The Vikings settled for a nonconference tie on Saturday, Oct. 25.

Cape trailed 1-0 at halftime but tied the match on a goal by Alex Gurdini at the 51:00 mark.

Cape outshot McKean 7-5. Viking goalkeeper Steve Fabian stopped two shots.

Cape Henlopen 1, Seaford 0

The Vikings finished their Henlopen Conference season with a shutout win on Tuesday, Oct. 21.

Cape finished its conference season with a 10-2 conference record. The Vikings are 11-2 overall and awaiting word on a state tournament berth.

Against Seaford, the Vikings used a goal by Tom Grogan at the 26:23 mark of the first half and 8 saves by goalkeeper Steve Fabian to secure the win.

Cape, which led 22-9 in shots and 4-0 in corner kicks, got an assist from Nick Albanese.

Caesar Rodney 3, Cape Henlopen 1

The Vikings' hopes for a Henlopen Conference or Northern Division championship evaporated with the loss to unbeaten Caesar Rodney on Thursday, Oct. 16.

The loss gave the Northern Division crown to CR, which rose to 10-0 in the conference and 11-0-1 overall.

The Riders face Dover on Tuesday, Oct. 21, before visiting Henlopen South champion Indian River on Monday, Oct. 27, in a match that will likely decide the conference title.

The Vikings took a 1-0 lead in the first half on a goal by Alex Gurdini, but wound up falling to 9-2 in the conference and 10-2 overall. Tom Grogan assisted on Gurdini's goal.

Goalkeeper Steve Fabian registered 17 saves for Cape, which trailed 39-11 in shots and 5-2 in corner kicks.

Cape Henlopen 1, Woodbridge 0

The Vikings survived a scare in the Henlopen Conference contest on Tuesday, Oct. 14.

Cape scored the game-winner at the 8:29 mark of the second half to rise to 10-1 in the conference and set up a showdown with unbeaten CR in a key Northern Division match on Thursday, Oct. 16.

Alex Gurdini assisted Clarke on the winning goal, while goalkeeper Steve Fabian recorded the shutout with 7 saves. Cape outshot Woodbridge 21-8 and led 6-2 in corner kicks.

Indian River 1, Cape Henlopen 0

The Vikings suffered their first loss of the season in a Henlopen Conference match on Thursday, Oct. 9. For details, click the score above.

Cape Henlopen 2, Smyrna 0

The Vikings shut out Smyrna on Tuesday, Oct. 7, to remain unbeaten.

The victory improved Cape to 9-0 in the Henlopen Conference.

Alex Gurdini set the pace for Cape against Smyrna with a pair of first half goals. Goalkeeper Steve Fabian registered 4 saves for the shutout.

Cape outshot Smyrna 15-6 and tied 2-2 in corner kicks. 

Cape Henlopen 2, Milford 1

The Vikings took a 2-0 lead and held on from there for the Henlopen Conference win on Monday, Oct. 6.

Cape got goals from Brandon Clarke and Coi Evans in to take a 2-0 lead at the 55:02 mark before Milford notched its first goal six minutes later.

Now 8-0 in the conference and overall, the Vikings trailed 14-9 in shots and 4-2 in corner kicks. Goalkeeper Steve Fabian recorded 11 saves.

Cape Henlopen 7, Polytech 0

The unbeaten Vikings ran their string of shutouts to four with the Henlopen Conference triumph.

Cape got goals from six players as it improved to 7-0 in the conference.

Mike Shook led the barrage with two goals. Conor Gaffney and Nat Gaffney contributed a goal and an assist apiece, while Coi Evans, Corey Schab and John Zacharias added the other goals.

Alex Gurdini had two assists and Brandon Clarke, Chris Clem and Travis Dorman each had one assist.

Goalkeeper Steve Fabian made 2 saves for Cape, which led 27-3 in shots and 4-0 in corner kicks.

Cape Henlopen 7, Lake Forest 0

The Vikings continued to rumble through the Henlopen Conference with an easy win on Tuesday, Sept. 30.

Recording its third straight conference shutout, Cape got three straight goals from Alex Gurdini between the first and second halves to take a 4-0 lead early in the second half.

Cape's other goals were scored by Nick Albanese, Brandon Clarke, Coi Evans and Corey Schab. Albanese and Clarke added assists.

Steve Fabian recorded the shutout with four saves as Cape rose to 6-0 in the conference. 

Cape Henlopen 3, Dover 0

The Vikings remained unbeaten in the Henlopen Conference with their second straight shutout win.

Cape got a pair of goals from Brandon Clarke and another from Coi Evans as Cape rose to 5-0 in the conference.

Evans also added an assist. Alex Gurdini registered two assists for Cape, which outshot Dover 16-10.

Goalkeeper Steve Fabian posted 10 saves for his third shutout of the season.

Cape Henlopen 7, Laurel 0

The Vikings took advantage of an inexperienced Laurel squad to post the easy victory.

Tom Grogan and Alex Gurdini led the way with two goals apiece for Cape, which outshot Laurel 37-3.

Coi Evans, Brandon Clarke and Conor Gaffney added the other goals for the Vikings. Mike Shook registered two assists and goalkeeper Steve Fabian stopped 3 shots for the shutout.

Cape Henlopen 3, Delmar 1

The Vikings rebounded from an early deficit to remain unbeaten in the Henlopen Conference on Tuesday, Sept. 16.

After falling behind Delmar 1-0 in the first half, Cape responded with goals by Coi Evans and Mike Shook to take a 2-1 lead into the half.

Brandon Clarke added an insurance goal in the second half. Evans, Conor Gaffney and Scott Myers registered assists.

Goalkeeper Steve Fabian recorded 10 saves for the Vikings, who rose to 3-0 in the conference.

Cape Henlopen 3, Sussex Central 0

The Vikings rose to 2-0 overall and in the Henlopen Conference with three second-half goals on Thursday, Sept. 11.

Tied 0-0 at halftime, Cape used goals by Tom Grogan and Coi Evans to grab a 2-0 lead and cruised from there.

Goalkeeper Steve Fabian posted the shutout with 5 saves. Cape outshot Sussex Central 11-7 and held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Cape Henlopen 6, Sussex Tech 1

The Vikings started their 2003 season with a Henlopen Conference victory on Tuesday, Sept. 9.

Coi Evans and Alex Gurdini scored two goals apiece to lead the win. Brandon Clarke and Tom Grogan scored the other goals.

Cape dominated the match throughout, finishing with a 25-7 edge in shots. Steve Fabian stood out in goal with 6 saves.
