First Round State Tournament
Tatnall 5, Delmar 0
The Wildcats couldn't repeat last year's stunning ride to the state soccer tournament finals as they were eliminated in the first round on Wednesday, Nov. 5.
Delmar fell behind 3-0 in the first half and never recovered in the loss at Polytech. The Wildcats, seeded 11th, finished their season at 10-5-2.
The Wildcats trailed Tatnall 15-5 in shots and couldn't get off a single shot in the second half. Delmar goalkeeper Chris Elliott recorded 7 saves. The teams tied 2-2 in corner kicks.
Tatnall, the sixth seed, rose to 15-1-1 and moved into the quarterfinals on Saturday, Nov. 8, against No. 3 A.I. DuPont.
Delmar 2, Sussex Central 2
The Wildcats led most of the way but lost a chance for a second straight win over Sussex Central late in the match on Thursday, Oct. 23.
Cody Collins had given Delmar a 2-1 lead but Sussex Central came back with a late goal to tie the match.
Chris Elliott had 12 saves for the Wildcats, who are 9-4-2 overall.
Delmar 2, Sussex Central 1
The Wildcats scored a goal in overtime to capture the Henlopen Conference victory on Tuesday, Oct. 21.
Delmar took a 1-0 lead over Sussex Central on a first half goal by Cody Collins.
Delmar 7, Seaford 1
The Wildcats exploded for six unanswered goals in a Henlopen Conference win that snapped a two-match losing streak on Tuesday, Oct. 14.
Delmar broke open a 1-1 tie on a goal by Matt Smith to take a 2-1 lead into the half and then ripped off five more goals in the second half.
Cody Collins recorded a hat trick to lead the Wildcats, while Smith added two goals.
Delmar, which outshot Seaford 12-6 and led 5-3 in corner kicks, also got goals from Brandon Figgs and Josh Scotton.
Delmar is now 7-4-2 overall.
St. Mark's 3, Delmar 1
The Wildcats couldn't keep up with the upstate powerhouse in a nonconference match on Saturday, Oct. 11.
Delmar spotted St. Mark's a 3-0 lead before Brad Vanderwende notched the Wildcats' only goal at the 56:15 mark.
Delmar trailed 22-11 in shots and 8-2 in corner kicks. Wildcat goalkeeper Elliott had 13 saves.
Caesar Rodney 4, Delmar 1
The Wildcats made a game of it for awhile against undefeated Caesar Rodney in a Henlopen Conference contest on Thursday, Oct. 9.
Despite being outshot 36-13, Delmar trailed just 2-1 when Brandon Figgs scored at the 49:00 mark on an assist from Patrick Spear.
CR would finally put the game away with goals at 61:51 and 72:06.
Goalkeeper Nathan Andrade registered 21 saves for Delmar.
Indian River 5, Delmar 2
The Wildcats fell behind 3-0, rallied to pull within 3-2, then saw Indian River put the Henlopen Conference match away with a pair of goals.
Josh Scotton and Cody Collins brought Delmar within 3-2 in the second half, with Scotton scoring on an assist from Brandon Figgs.
Goalkeeper Jesse Scovell had 17 saves for the Wildcats, who were outshot 33-20 but led 17-7 in corner kicks.
Delmar 2, Smyrna 0
The Wilcats used two second half goals to subdue Smyrna in the Henlopen Conference on Tuesday, Sept. 30.
Delmar got its first goal from Cody Collins at the 3:00 mark of the second half.
It then got an insurance goal from Matt Smith on an assist from Collins at the 23:00 mark. Brad Vanderwende assisted on Collins' goal.
Goalkeeper Jesse Scovell notched the shutout with 4 saves. Delmar outshot Smyrna 18-6 and tied 3-3 in corner kicks.
Delmar 8, Lake Forest 1
The Wildcats collected their first Henlopen Conference win of the season on Tuesday, Sept. 23.
Now 1-1-1 in the conference, Delmar got two goals apiece from Cody Collins, Brandon Figgs and Josh Scotton.
Also scoring goals for Delmar were Halder Garcia and Brad Vanderwende.
The Wildcats led Lake 19-3 in shots and 8-2 in corner kicks.
Cape Henlopen 3, Delmar 1
The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead but couldn't hold on in the Henlopen Conference match on Tuesday, Sept. 16.
Delmar took its lead on a first half goal by Brad Vanderwende. Cape Henlopen, however, scored twice in the first half and once in the second.
Wildcat goalkeeper Josh Scotton recorded 13 saves. The defending Henlopen Conference Southern Division champions are now 0-1-1 in the conference.
Delmar 1, Milford 1
The Wildcats battled Milford to the Henlopen Conference tie on Thursday, Sept. 11.
Cody Collins scored Delmar's goal at the 34:25 mark of the first half, but Milford forced the tie with a goal at the 7:15 mark of the second half.
The Wildcats were outshot 34-18, but goalkeeper Josh Scotton kept them in the game with 21 saves.
Delmar 4, Worcester (Md.) 0
The Wildcats, coming off a state tournament season, started their 2003 campaign with a nonconference victory on Tuesday, Sept. 9.
Delmar used a balanced attack with four goal scorers -- Corey Basch, Chris Elliott, Brandon Figgs and Brad Vanderwende. Vanderwende also had an assist.
The Wildcats dominated Worcester with a 29-5 advantage in shots and a 2-0 edge in corner kicks. Josh Scotton posted the shutout in goal with 5 saves.
