2003 Boys' Soccer Schedule

First Round State Tournament
Caesar Rodney 5, Sussex Central 0

The Golden Knights couldn't get on the board as they were eliminated in the first round of the 2003 Delaware High School Boys' Soccer Tournament on Wednesday, Nov. 5.

Central, seeded 13th, trailed only 1-0 at halftime but Caesar Rodney, the fourth seed, exploded for four goals in a 10-minute period from the 52:00 to the 62:00 marks to take full command.

Central trailed CR 12-8 in shots and 2-0 in corner kicks. Knight goalkeeper Jason Collins recorded 6 saves.

The Knights, who finished with an 11-5-1 record, also lost to Caesar Rodney during the regular season, 6-0.

Caesar Rodney improved to 15-1-1 and advanced to a quarterfinal match with defending state champion and No. 5 seed St. Mark's on Saturday, Nov. 8.

Sussex Central 2, Delmar 2

The Golden Knights pulled out the tie on a late goal in the Henlopen Conference match on Thursday, Oct. 23.

The Knights got the game-tying goal from Paul Watson.  Danny Milam scored Central's first goal while Lester Lopez and Chris Cordrey notched assists.

Jason Collins kept the Knights in the match with 12 saves. Central and Delmar tied 15-15 in shots.

Delmar 2, Sussex Central 1

The Golden Knights suffered a Henlopen Conference loss in overtime on Tuesday, Oct. 21.

The Knights trailed Delmar 1-0 at halftime before tying the match on a Contreras.

Central led 24-20 in shots. Knight goalkeeper Jason Collins recorded 18 saves.

Sussex Central 4, Sussex Tech 1

The Golden Knights posted their second straight win to keep their state tournament hopes alive on Tuesday, Oct. 14.

The Knights jumped out to a 3-0 halftime lead in the Henlopen Conference contest.

Eddie Romero scored two goals to lead Central, while Chris Cordrey and Jonathan Deleone notched the others.

Central goalkeeper Jason Collins posted 5 saves.

In rising to 8-3 in the conference and 9-3 overall, Central outshot Sussex Tech 16-7.

Sussex Central 4, Seaford 1

The Golden Knights jumped out to a 4-0 lead early in the second half and never looked back in the Henlopen Conference contest on Thursday, Oct. 9.

Central got a hat trick from Jonathan Deleon and 3 assists from Eddie Romero in rising to 7-3 in the conference and 8-3 overall.

Paul Watson added the Knights' other goal, while Lester Lopez contributed an assist.

Goalkeeper Jason Collins had 6 saves for Central, which outshot Seaford 13-7.

Caesar Rodney 6, Sussex Central 0

The Golden Knights were no match for unbeaten Caesar Rodney in a Henlopen Conference match on Tuesday, Oct. 7.

Central trailed 36-17 in shots and 3-0 in corner kicks. Goalkeeper Ruben Dominguez was busy in the net with 28 saves.

Central fell to 6-3 in the conference and 7-3 overall with the loss.

Sussex Central 1, Woodbridge 0

The Golden Knights got back on the winning track with the Henlopen Conference victory on Thursday, Oct. 2.

Eddie Romero scored the Knights' goal on an assist from Danny Milam in the first half.

Central improved to 6-2 in the conference and 7-2 overall with the win.

Indian River 3, Sussex Central 1

The Golden Knights fell to their district rivals in a Henlopen Conference match on Tuesday, Sept. 30. Click the score for details.

Sussex Central 3, Smyrna 1

The Golden Knights won their third straight Henlopen Conference match on Thursday, Sept. 25, to improve to 4-1 in the conference and overall.

Central scored all of its goals in the first half with Eddie Romero scoring twice and Sander Mendez once. Romero has scored five goals in the last two games.

The Knights outshot Smyrna 16-5. Goalkeeper Jason Collins recorded 4 saves.

The Knights visit rival Indian River in a key conference matchup on Tuesday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m.

Sussex Central 7, Polytech 0

The Golden Knights recorded their second straight win as Eddie Romero posted a hat trick in Henlopen Conference action on Tuesday, Sept. 23.

Now 3-1 in the conference and overall, the Knights also got two goals from Sander Mendez and 6 saves by goalkeeper Jason Collins.

Jonathan Deleon and Eric Sellers scored the other goals for Central.

Sussex Central 4, Dover 1

The Golden Knights picked up a big win over perennial Henlopen Conference power Dover on Tuesday, Sept. 16.

Jonathan Deleon and Eddie Romero scored two goals and added one assist apiece to lead the victory.

Danny Milam assisted on the other two goals as Central rose to 2-1 in the conference and overall.

Cape Henlopen 3, Sussex Central 0

The Golden Knights suffered their first loss on Thursday, Sept. 11, to fall to 1-1 in the Henlopen Conference and overall.

Central goalkeeper Jason Collins recorded 7 saves. Central trailed Cape Henlopen 11-7 in shots and 4-1 in corner kicks.

Sussex Central 4, Milford 2

The Golden Knights opened their 2003 campaign on a positive note with the Henlopen Conference victory on Tuesday, Sept. 9.

Behind Eddie Romero, Danny Milam and Diego Sanchez, the Knights controlled play throughout and finished with a 24-14 advantage in shots over Milford.

Romero scored two of the Knights' goals, while Milam and Sanchez punched in the others.

Central goalkeeper Jason Collins finished with 12 saves.
