Is it possible the bureaucrats running the SR-1 committee planned with certain developers & realtors before the SR-1 committee EVER MET to:

(1) Expand the "Sussex County Development District" east & west of Route 1,

(2) And promote four to five giant towns with commercial zoning for both sides of Route 1 -- specifically, along Route 24, Route 23 & Kings Highway at Gills Neck Road?

They didn't tell the Public Advisory Committee about these towns (government calls them villages) until recently & government types who are pushing the SR-1 committee in that direction say the so-called villages will solve our transportation problems. Balderdash!

Trouble is, these areas are environmentally sensitive & drain into inland bays. This land cannot & must not be made to accommodate such beehives of activity.

I know that we citizens are being played like violins, & this nonsense has to stop.

Sussex Co. C/Z #1468; BOCA EAST 258.11 acres N.E. side Rd 279, 0.9 miles S. E. of Rd 277 with 509 residential units [123 lots, 182 cottages,153 apartments & 50 assisted living units].
Sussex Co. Rezoning; ROBERA-ODEYSSEY VENTURES 787.787 acres at end of Bay Farm Rd; (off Rt 24 between Oak Orchard & Long Neck) 1,404 units with golf course & club house; a 250 room inn & conference center; & approx. 10,000 square feet of retail space.

Sussex Co. C/Z #1474; A.A.S.C.D. VENTURES, 303 acres S. W. of Bay Farm Rd. (Rd 299), N. of Trinity Rd. (Rd 299A) & on both sides of Legion Rd. (Rd 298) between Oak Orchard & Long Neck. Residential Planned Community of 780 units: single family lots, multi-family units, a community center, recreational facilities, 2.9 acres of neighborhood commercial uses & a Park & Ride lot. The proposed development is adjacent to the proposed Peninsula development.

These proposals represent 2,600+ units. When you add Fannin's 190, Dyer's 280, Hudson's 600, Robino's 68 already approved but none built yet it represents over 3,800 units plus the commercial ventures.

It's true you can never go home. It leaves you faster than the blink of an eye. I grew up in Lewes many years ago but its not the Lewes I love anymore. Rampant comercialization and development have turned it into something I'd just as soon keep at arms length.
