How much money is being spent on attorney's fees and litigation costs in Fenwick? Chief Dickerson's hearing is continuing for yet another day and will it change the opinion of any of the Town Councilpersons? The trumped up charges are disgusting - misappropriation of public funds in the amount of $25. How about obstruction of justice when asked to do something illegal?

I note with interest that the Town Treasurer has a very poor memory when it comes to public funds. Why did he recently change an approved budget because he was verbally asked to? It's amazing with all the memoes going to Chief Dickerson for clarification of his $25 expenditure that there was no written memo from Mr. Henefin to Mr. Griffin to make any budget adjustments for $48,000. This makes me very uncomfortable that Mr. Griffin is handling the entire budget of $1.1 million. He has not been available for the past two monthly meetings to answer or clarify any questions - even when the auditor was there. Why wasn't this $48,000 line item questioned and why didn't the whole Council become aware of it? Shouldn't this have been brought to the attention of the public in a regular meeting? If Mr. Henefin had such a problem with the Chief why didn't he have a discussion before the entire Council for clarification of duties? Mr. Frederick believes that this is funny as he smiled through a lot of the hearing. His face was amazingly red which belied his jovial attitude. As President Baunchalk publicly took full responsibility for the actions of Council, is she going to reimburse the Town for all the attorney fees, penalties and interest caused by the Council's lack of foresight, ineptitude and coverup of funds entrusted by the public?
As for the proposed park - we already have one - a DEEP hole in Fenwick.

Anyone know what Vinny Vickers' fees are? One of the highest priced lawyers in Sussex County ...

And he's representing the town ... in other words, he's billing the residents and property owners of Fenwick Island.

Vinny Vickers is the best. I think somebody should tell "suspended" Dickerson that the WAWA is hiring on RT. 26 and maybe he should fill out an application. But again, he would burn the coffee like he did to all of his past employees.

By champagne drinker on Monday, February 17, 2003 - 10:30 am:

What kind of coffee are you drinking?
Are you watching the same hearing as me?
Dickerson will soon be buying WAWA with the money from his lawsuit. Perhaps he will give you a discount on your next coffee purchase.

Since Vinnie Vickers speciality is DUI's, why would this town hire him for matters that are not in his field of expertise. A labor lawyer would be a much more appropriate choice. Is there a relationship between Mr. Vickers and the town's usual legal maven, Ms. Steen.

Question to all the fiscally responsible town people? Would you send a 20 year police officer now chief to a $6000.00 FBI National Academy?

By the truth on Monday, February 17, 2003 - 10:48 pm:

Shouldn't the police chief provide a full accounting of every dollar spent? Shouldn't the taxpayers hold the town council responsible? Oh they forgot to do that? and pay taxes, and wonder why do our police officers always leave? How come we have only two officers who have stayed over 10 years? Could they be the problem??

By the truthl on Tuesday, February 18, 2003 - 01:48 am:

Manning was a stooge in the Cartwright gate.

The Truth says ...

"How come we have only two officers who have stayed over 10 years? Could they be the problem?"

That fact should have been reviewed and corrected many years ago. Although it may be true (100% accurate, actually), the problem rests in the fact that both sides started pointing fingers, and now they're both fighting to cover their tracks. Both sides are equally guilty of documented wrong-doings. There are former officers that have copies of records, memos and reports proving some of those wrong-doings on the police side. As for the town side, all that is coming out in the wash, so to speak.

In any case, it's a lose-lose situation for the residents and property owners of Fenwick Island. They will be the one's paying the massive bill at the end. It's not just a money issue, either. Fenwick Island will suffer for many years having a well-documented reputation as a corrupt and out-of-control local government.

To Sussex,
As a past employee of Fenwick Island who has left on bad terms, I must say, you have posted the complete facts and truth. Both sides are to blame.
Spending thousands of dollars to send a chief to a F.B.I. Academy did not solve the problems, council ignored the problems. My only wish is that the towns people would have questioned the large turn over in police and done something about it then. With a new chief and hopefully new council members, Fenwick will become a much better place. Again, good posting.

I feel sorry for the innocent taxpayers and citizens of Fenwick Island. They are the victims. They placed their trust in public officals who were SUPPOSED to represent their intrests. The trust is been destroyed and the citizens are left to pick up the pieces (and hugh bill) This is the state of politics!!! Hugh babies, shake hands , stab them in the back when they are looking. This is crime.
