Current Headlines ... Powell Named State's Principal of the Year MILLSBORO -- Robert Powell, principal of Sussex Central Middle School in Millsboro, has been named Delaware's 1999 Principal of the Year. Powell was one of 53 principals honored nationwide at the National Principal of the Year Symposium in Washington D.C. from Oct. 2-5. He was named the state's winner in February. Powell attended two recognition dinners, one on Oct. 3 at the Gannett Newspaper Building and the other on Oct. 4 at the Corcoran Gallery of Art. He also attended numerous workshops. Powell begain his career as a health teacher at Selbyville Middle School in 1975. In 1980, he was named the Indian River School District's Teacher of the Year. He moved to Sussex Central Middle School in 1980 and served as assistant principal until 1989, when he became principal. "I think it's quite an honor to be recognized as state principal of the year," said Powell. Powell credits the school's students, staff and parents for his award.
