![]() The nearly 100 'Eskimos' who braved the icy waters of the Atlantic Ocean off Bethany Beach on New Year's Day emerged in hot pursuit of warm towels and hot drinks for their shivering bodies.
Perhaps proving that Cabin Fever is a legitimate malady, they arrive in parkas, coats, caps and gloves, only to disrobe at high noon and run headlong for the frigid ocean. Most ran in and ran out, but a few dove in head-first, and some stayed in for several minutes, leading those on the beach to wonder if they were just having fun or had lost control of their faculties. The swim benefits a scholarship fund for Bethany and Fenwick area students. New this year was a Hometown Pet Show that drew 70 contestants in four categories. That contest benefits the Sussex County SPCA and the Bethany Town Cats organizations. ![]()
