Seeking Advice on
Attracting Industries

Delaware Gov. Ruth Ann Minner has formed a high-level economic development council of business people, academics and state officials to advise her on attracting new industries to the state and retaining and growing the companies now located there.

Minner announced the formation of the council, to be chaired by DuPont Senior Vice President Stacey J. Mobley, on Friday, Jan. 5, 2001.

The council will consist of 22 members including representatives of financial services, life sciences, agriculture, information technology, chemicals, environmental advocacy, labor, the state and local chambers, and the University of Delaware.

Lieutenant Governor John Carney, State Treasurer Jack Markell, Secretary of Finance David Singleton, and Matthew P. Denn, the legal counsel for Gov. Minner, will be among those on the council.

The director of the Delaware Economic Development Office, and members of the state House of Representatives and Senate will also serve.

"One reason that Delaware has enjoyed so much economic success in past years is that government has listened to the business community, and government has responded quickly when opportunities appeared," said Gov. Minner.

"We did not become the world center for incorporation by accident. We did not become a world center for the financial services industry or an emerging leader in the biotechnology field by accident. It happened because our smartest business people and our top elected officials recognized that these would be huge growth areas in the national economy, that they would bring the kinds of jobs to Delaware that we wanted for our citizens."

Besides being a senior vice president of DuPont, Mobley is also the company's chief administrative officer and general counsel. He is a member of the company's five-member Office of the Chief Executive and a member of the Board of Directors of Wilmington Trust Company.

"I am confident that under Stacey's leadership, I will get the best strategic advice possible from this council," said Minner.
