Held Feb. 12, 10 a.m. SC Online Publisher Fenwick Island Town Council voted to reschedule the termination hearing for suspended Police Chief George H. Dickerson Jr. to Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003. The hearing will now be held in Roxana Fire Hall instead of the Bethany Beach Fire Hall. The hearing, postponed from Dec. 4, 2002, will be held at 10 a.m. The hearing will be held to determine if Dickerson should be fired or reinstated. Council approved the new hearing date following an executive session on Monday, Jan. 6, to discuss personnel issues and pending litigation. Dickerson has filed a lawsuit against the town over the suspension, claiming he was only suspended because he reported alleged misuse of COPS Grant funds to the Department of Justice, which has resulted in an investigation by the DOJ. Council hired consultant Glenn Hudson as officer in charge until the day after Dickerson's hearing and pending the results of that hearing. Council also voted to reschedule the Jan. 24 regular town council meeting to Jan. 31 because the management report on the town's overdue audits wasn't expected to be ready by Jan. 24. Council approved the rescheduling of the chief's hearing unanimously but approved the rescheduling of the town council meeting 6-1 with Vicki Carmean casting the lone dissenting vote. Carmean said she didn't believe the council meeting should be rescheduled because out-of-town property owners may not be able to change their schedules to attend. Local News Index | News Index |
