Meetings on CLUP Revision
set for February, March

The next round of meetings on the revision of the Sussex County Comprehensive Land Use Plan will begin on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002.

As it did in the first round, the county administration will hold a meeting in each councilmanic district in March to give local officials and residents a chance to give their opinions on what should be revised in the current plan.

County council, the Planning and Zoning Commission, and Board of Adjustment will hold a joint workshop at the county's West Administrative Complex on U.S. 113 on Feb. 27 at 5 p.m.

In March, county staff and council members will take to the road under the following schedule:

  • District 5
Tuesday, March 19, 5 p.m., Selbyville Fire Hall
(Fenwick Island, South Bethany, Selbyville, Dagsboro, Frankford, Millsboro and Delmar areas)

  • District 4
Wednesday, March 20, 5 p.m., Rehoboth Beach Convention Center
(Henlopen Acres, Rehoboth Beach, Dewey Beach, Bethany Beach, Ocean View, Millville)

  • District 3
Tuesday, March 26, 5 p.m., Lewes Public Library
    (Ellendale, Slaughter Beach, Lewes, Milton)

  • District 2
Wednesday, March 27, 5 p.m., Laurel Fire Hall
    (Seaford, Blades, Bethel, Laurel)

  • District 2
Thursday, March 28, 5 p.m., Sussex County Administrative Building
    (Milford, Greenwood, Bridgeville, Georgetown)

All meetings are open to the public and feature a presentation by county staff followed by public comment. The county is required to update its Comprehensive Land Use Plan every five years.

The current plan has been in effect since 1997 and has generated tremendous controversy in the coastal areas. Most changes in the plan are expected to revolve around environmentally sensitive areas in the coastal zone.
