Threat Level to Orange |
With Liberty Shield
In accordance with the federal Department of Homeland Security's initiation of Operation Liberty Shield, Governor Ruth Ann Minner, in consultation with Homeland Security Advisor Philip Cabaud and Public Safety Secretary James Ford, raised the Delaware Homeland Security Threat Level to "High" or Orange on Monday, March 17, 2003. "After speaking by phone with Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge and hearing some of the information the federal government has, we will raise Delaware's threat level to match that of the federal government," Gov. Minner said. "I ask all Delawareans to be aware of their surroundings, to take extra security precautions and to prepare for possibility of attacks on America." The U.S. Department of Homeland Security raised the threat level for the country to Operation Liberty Shield as President George W. Bush Jr. gave Iraqui dictator Saddam Hussein 48 hours to leave Iraq or face war on Monday. The Delaware Homeland Security Threat Level recommends that at Level Orange:
