Ambro Judicial
Hearings Begin

From Sen. Biden's Office ...

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Hearings for Wilmington attorney Thomas L. Ambro's nomination to be a U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Judge for the Third Circuit began on Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999.

The Third Circuit, which currently has three openings, includes the state of Delaware.

The hearings, by the Senate Judiciary Committee, will clear the way for the committee's full consideration of the nomination and eventual consideration by the U.S. Senate.

Ambro, 49, has been a member of the Delaware Bar since 1976 and is currently a partner in the Wilmington law firm of Richards, Layton and Finger.

He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and graduated magna cum laude from Georgetown University. After receiving a B.A. in History there, he received his law degree from the university's law school in 1975.

If confirmed, he would replace retiring Judge Walter K. Stapleton on the Third Circuit Court of Appeals. Ambro was nominated for the position by U.S. Sen. Joseph Biden (D-Del.).

"The Third Circuit needs Tom Ambro," said Sen. Biden. "I have no doubt that with his first-rate legal mind, judicial temperament and record of civic service, he wll serve Delaware with distinction."
