Biden Touts

From Sen. Biden's Office ...

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- U.S. Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. (D-Del.) says that Delawareans will benefit from a number of projects approved during the legislative session that closed Friday, Nov. 19, 1999.

Sen. Biden said on Friday that the state will receive $17.75 million for environmental and military projects, including $1.25 million for beach replenishment projects.

The state will also receive $12 million for continued construction of visiting officers quarters at Dover Air Force Base, $1.5 million for the Pea Patch Island erosion project, and $3 million for the University of Delaware to continue its research for the Navy in developing new and stronger composite materials.

Sen. Biden also said he was satisfied with the final budget that passed Friday.

"The final budget negotiations seem to get more complicated each year, but in the end, I think we struck some good compromises and I'm happy with the final results," he said.

Sen. Biden touted a $1.7 billion increase in veterans health care and $913 million to add 50,000 cops to American schools and streets.

"I've been working on getting this funding all year and I'm glad to see that we were able to get it done," said Sen. Biden. "Crime across the country is at its lowest in years because of this program and extending its life will make our streets even safer."
