Rehoboth 800 MHz
Radio Operating

REHOBOTH -- The $50 million 800 MHz emergency radio system in Rehoboth Beach is finally working properly after encountering numerous problems with dead spots that prevented calls from being made in the area.

The emergency system has been in place throughout the state but coverage problems affected Rehoboth and the Hartly, Brandywine Hundred, Claymont and Hockessin areas.

Motorola, which installed the system, fixed the problem areas at no cost to the state at the request of Delaware Governor Thomas R. Carper, according to a release from the governor's office.

"Motorola has pledged to fixing these problems and using their own money to do so," said Gov. Carper. "We will hold Motorola to that commitment while they continue fixing the system in other areas of the state. After spending more than $50 million on this project, Delaware taxpayers should expect no less."

Motorola tested the system on Friday, Sept. 3, 1999, with representatives of the Fire Service, police, the state and Sussex County to insure it is operational in all areas.

"After observing the test conducted today in Rehoboth, we feel very confident that with the assistance of Governor Carper, Motorola, Sussex County, and the City of Rehoboth, that the 800 MHz radio system is working as it was intended to work," said Michael Vincent, president of the Delaware Volunteer Firemen's Association.
