After Floyd, Before Fall ... Beaches Back to Normal, Fall Nears Photos: Beaches were back in business last weekend following Hurricane Floyd's pass over the Sussex County coast. Sussex County beaches were back to normal on the last official weekend of summer, Sept. 18-19, following their brush with Hurricane Floyd. The first day of autumn is Thursday, Sept. 23, 1999, but there should still be plenty of time to swim in the ocean or go fishing as water temperatures generally stay warm enough for watersports until early- to mid-October.
