Cancellations and Travel Woes ![]() The first significant snowfall of the season sure added a touch of beauty to the Sussex County landscape, but it has also proved treacherous for drivers, particularly on back roads that road crews hadn't salted. In addition to travel problems, the snow also cancelled all schools in the county Thursday and Friday, cancelled the county planning and zoning committee hearing on the controversial Americana Bayside project, and postponed Gov. Thomas R. Carper's state of the state address until Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000. Driving remained difficult on back roads on Friday after temperatures dropped well below freezing and wind chills below zero. Drivers should be wary of icy patches and "black ice". ![]() Photos: The snow provided some beautiful scenery but also treacherous roads for local drivers. |
