The Delaware State Fair's annual bash of carnival rides, farming exhibits, food, live entertainment and contests completed its 2000 run on Saturday, July 29, 2000.

The 10-day event drew a record crowd of 254,651 beat the previous record by nearly 3,000 despite iffy weather that toyed with the outdoor events.

From needlework to livestock exhibitions, the fair lived up to its reputation as a true country event celebrating America's rural lifestyle.

Entertainers took over at night with country stars such as Martina McBride and Reba McEntire and rock bands like Def Leppard taking over center stage in the grandstand.

The fair held numerous contests and handed out hundreds of ribbions for everything from livestock judging to recipes. Barn tours, meanwhile, gave non-farmers an idea of what farm life is like.
