Winter Storm Hammers Sussex Pounding Surf at the Beaches High Water, Plowing Snow Winter Storm Videos More in the Storm Center Photo: Snow accumulated quickly on area roads including Middleford road in Seaford. The biggest snowstorm to hit Sussex County in four years hammered Sussex County on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000. The storm's effects were felt the rest of the week as numerous events and meetings were cancelled and schools were closed for the rest of the week. While main roads were clear by Wednesday, road crews were not able to clear secondary, back and subdivision roads of the ice that built up in sub-freezing temperatures after the storm.
