Seaford 3, Cape Henlopen 0 The Vikings battled one of the conference's top teams to a scoreless tie at halftime but couldn't keep up in the second half. Caesar Rodney 6, Cape Henlopen 2 The Vikings couldn't keep up with the state's sixth-ranked team in a Henlopen North match. Latee Turral and Steve Conlon scored the goals for Cape, while Steve Spence recorded 21 saves in goal. Indian River 2, Cape Henlopen 1 Mike Brittingham scored the lone goal for the Vikings, who were outshot 16-11. Goakeeper Steve Spence finished with 11 saves. Cape Henlopen 10, Delcastle 0 John Mancusco scored four goals as the Vikings crushed their Blue Hen Conference foe in a nonconference match. Latess Turral added two more goals and Cape built a 28-8 advantage in shots. Steve Welsh, Robert Dorman, Clinton Wattsa and A.J. Williams scored the Vikings' other goals while goalkeepers Steve Spence and Marco Costellanos combined for the shutout. Cape Henlopen 3, Polytech 3 The Vikings trailed 2-0 at halftime but recovered with three second half goals including a goal by Steve Conlon that tied the match in the 76th minute. Cape's other goals were scored by John Mancuso and Chase Korneman. Conlon also had an assist, as did Steve Welsh. Viking goalkeeper Steve Spence recorded six saves. Cape is now 2-3-1 overall and 1-3-1 in the conference. Milford 4, Cape Henlopen 3 The Vikings dug a 4-0 second-half hole that they couldn't quite dig out of in the Henlopen North match. The Vikings scored all three goals on penalty kicks by Steve Welsh, Lateef Turrel and Chris Nuebling. Sfah Spence made 10 saves in goal. Sussex Central 4, Cape Henlopen 1 The Vikings trailed just 1-0 at halftime but ran out of steam in the second half of their season-opener. Steve Welsh scored Cape's goal in the second half while Steve Spence recorded 18 saves in goal. The Vikings were outshot 24-8. |
