'Cats Host Raiders Three Sussex County teams have qualified for the 2000 Delaware State High School football tournament. Sussex Central enters the Division I state tournament for the first time ever, while Delmar and Woodbridge will gear up for Part II of their long-time rivalry with a first-round game in the Division II tournament. Sussex Central, seeded second in the Division I tournament, hosts No. 3 Dover on Saturday, Nov. 25, at 7:30 p.m., while Delmar, seeded second, and Woodbridge, seeded third, meet at Delmar on Friday, Nov. 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the Division II tourney. Sussex Central defeated Dover 26-7 during the regular season. Both teams finished the regular season 9-1 and tied with Caesar Rodney for the Henlopen North title. CR was named the North champion by the points system the conference uses to decide three-way ties but wound up seeded fourth based on the points standings that determine the playoff seeds. Delmar defeated Woodbridge 27-15 on Friday, Nov. 17, to claim the Henlopen South crown on Woodbridge's field. The Wildcats are the tournament's No. 2 seed with a 9-1 mark. Woodbridge, at 8-2, is the tournament's third seed. In other first round games, top-seeded and unbeaten St. Elizabeth (10-0) hosts three-time defending state champion and No. 4 seed Middletown (9-1) in the Division II tourney on Saturday, Nov. 25. CR takes on three-time defending state champion and No. 1 seed Newark in the other Division I first-round game on Friday, Nov. 24. The Riders lost to Newark 35-0 in their season-opener.
