Delmar 3, Indian River 2 (OT)
The Indians suffered a difficult loss to the two-time defending Henlopen Conference champions in a big Henlopen South game. Leighann Ambrose and Laura Ford scored the goals for the Indians, who slipped to 10-3 despite outshooting the Wildcats 15-11. Goalie Alley Desiderio registered 9 saves. It was the second close call for the Indians against Delmar. IR tied Delmar last season.
Indian River 3, Laurel 0
The Indians shut out Laurel to rise to 10-2 overall and set up a big game at Delmar, the state's second-ranked team, on Thursday, Oct. 19, at 4 p.m. Julene Gamble scored two goals to lead the Indians, while Cara Deldeo pumped in the other.
Indian River 2, Smyrna 1
After a scoreless first half, the Indians got the game-winner on a goal by Leslie Morin on an assist from Brittany Croll at the 3:46 mark. Cara Deldeo scored IR's first goal on an assist from Julene Gamble.
Indian River 2, Sussex Central 1
The Indians edged their district rivals with a goal by Laura Ford at 27:36 o the second half to rise to 6-2 overall. Leighann Ambrose scored the Indians' first goal. Goalie Alley Desiderio recorded 10 saves. Indian River outshot the Knights 14-11 and held a 17-7 advantage in penalty corners.
Indian River 5, Woodbridge 1
The Indians poured it on in the second half after leading just 1-0 at halftime. Now 5-1 overall, IR used three goals by Leighann Ambrose in the second half to pull away. Brittany Croll added another goal for the Indians, who outshot Woodbridge 19-5.
Indian River 4, Sts. Peter & Paul 1
Cara Deldeo scored two goals in the nonconference victory. Brittany Croll added another goal.
Indian River 6, Polytech 1
The Indians took a 4-0 halftime lead in the rout. Cara Deldeo led the way with two goals and two assists. Leslie Morin scored two more goals. Julene Gamble added a goal and assist and Leighann Ambrose had the other goal. IR outshot the Panthers 20-7.
Indian River 4, Milford 1
The Indians got goals from four different players to rise to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference. Cara Deldeo and Leslie Marini scored goals in the first half while Dayna Elliott and Brittany Croll added goals in the second half. Deldeo and Laura Ford added assists for the Indians, who rose to 2-1. IR outshot Milford 15-8 and held a 16-10 edge in penalty corners. Alley Desiderio registered 7 saves.
Caesar Rodney 2, Indian River 1 (OT)
The Indians suffered their first loss on a penalty stroke in overtime to the state's 8th-ranked team in their conference opener. Although outshot 27-11, IR tied the contest 1-1 in the second half on a goal by Cara Deldeo. They lost the game on a penalty shot by CR's Michelle Rigby at 4:03 in overtime. Goalie Alley Desiderio stopped 10 shots for the Indians, now 1-1 overall.
Indian River 9, Worcester (Md.) Prep 0
The Indians routed the visitors from Maryland behind three goals apiece from Laura Ford and Brittany Croll. Croll also registered three assists in thei Indians' season-opener. Cara Deldeo fired in two more goals for IR, which outshot Worcester 56-0.
