Quarterback Ryan Billings' 156 yards and two touchdowns passing sparked the Bucs to their second win of the season. Halfback Vincent Leggins caught 4 passes from Billings for 71 yards. The euphoria of last week's exciting victory over Woodbridge was quickly dashed by Smyrna and its phenom running back, Mike Pennewell. A junior, Pennewell rushed for four touchdowns, eclipsed the 200-yard mark for the second straight game, and overshadowed standout performance from Milford running back Vincent Leggins and quarterback Ryan Billings. Milford trailed just 28-24 when Billings ran in from 7 yards out on the first possession of the second half. Pennewell, however, broke off a 50-yard run to set up the decisive score early in the fourth quarter. Billings also hit end Jon Webb with a three-yard touchdown pass that pulled Milford within 20-12 at the end of the first half and tossed a 43-yard scoring strike to Leggins. Leggins ran for 76 yards on just 8 carries and scored on runs of 52 and 2 yards. Milford 14, Woodbridge 13 For details on Milford's gutsy 14-13 victory over Woodbridge, click on the score above. The Buccaneers dominated their season-opener but couldn't put up enough points to come away with a win. The Bucs' only score came on a 29-yard run by running back Vincent Leggins that tied the game 6-6 with 3:25 left in the first half. Milford failed to score again, however, and Dickinson took the victory on Delino Bowe's overtime touchdown on third and goal. The Bucs lost a chance to tie the game when fullback J.R. Duffy, who led Milford with 95 yards rushing, dropped a touchdown pass from quarterback Ryan Billings in the end zone. The loss was a bitter one for a Milford team that compiled 143 yards rushing and 210 yards of total offense to Dickinson's 93 yards of total offense. The Buc defense was led by Matt Byrum's 17 tackles and Justin King's one-and-a-half sacks. |
