Archmere 12, Cape Henlopen 6 The Vikings played tough defense but had trouble finding the end zone in their season-opener. Trailing 12-0 at halftime, Cape took control of the game in the second half defensively as it held Archmere to negative yardage for the half. Quarterback Andy Chunn brought the Vikings to within 12-6 on a quarterback sneak on the opening drive of the second half, but the Vikings couldn't get the score they needed to tie or take the lead. "We looked like we played our first game," said first-year head coach Bill Geppert, who replaced Brian Donahue this season. "We dominated in the second half but only got one touchdown. We kept shooting ourselves in the foot with first game mistakes." Geppert said his entire defensive unit played well, particularly the linebacking crew of Kyle Travis, Shawn Sweeney and Dewayne Holloman. Besides the defense, Geppert said he saw other positive things on the field. "Just the fact that the kids bounced back and got themselves back into the game by taking the opening kickoff of the second half for a touchdown," said Geppert. "We were very flat in the beginning and it was tough to get going. We're learning new offensive and defensive systems and it will take some games to iron out the kinks."
