Cape Henlopen 35, Cambridge (Md.) 7
The Cape Henlopen High School football team put it all together for the first time this season in an impressive win over the Maryland power. Tailback Thaddeus Shockley led the way with touchdown runs of 45 and 15 yards and an interception return of 90 yards for another score. Shockley's 90-yard return ignited the Vikings in the second period after they had fallen behind Cambridge 7-0 in the first quarter. Shockley then added his touchdown runs in the second half to go with a 60-yard TD run by Dewayne Holloman and an 8-yard scoring run by fullback Larry Miller as Cape outscored Cambridge 29-0 in the second half. Shockley finished with 147 yards rushing. Miller and Holloman ran for 76 and 73 yards, respectively. Now 3-1 overall, the Vikings travel to Sussex Central for a 7:30 p.m. contest on Friday, Oct. 12, in their Henlopen Conference Northern Division opener. The Vikings lost to Sussex Central 3-0 last year. Central is 4-0 this season after beating Milford 41-14 in its Henlopen North opener on Friday, Oct. 5. Cape Index | Sports Index | News Index |
