Delmar 5, Woodbridge 0

The Wildcats dominated the Henlopen Conference contest with a 30-10 advantage in shots. Becca Gum sparked the outburst with a pair of goals. Jen Hastings, Brittany Elliott and Traci Lloyd scored a goal apiece. Goalie Kristen Wheatley posted 10 saves for the shutout.

Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001
Delmar 3, Indian River 3 (OT)

The Wildcats battled back from a 3-1 halftime deficit but couldn't pull out the Henlopen South game in overtime. Trailing 3-1 at the half, Delmar bounced back on goals by Danielle Twilley and Jennifer Hastings to force overtime. Rebecca Gum also scored for the Wildcats. Tracey Lloyd and Brittany Elliott recorded assists.

Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001
Milford 3, Delmar 2

The Wildcats lost to the unbeaten Bucs on a goal by Kelly Simon with 1:28 remaining in the Henlopen Conference game. Delmar took a 2-1 lead in the second half on goals by Danielle Twilley and Jen Hastings but the Bucs responded to pull out the win. Brittany Elliott assisted on both Delmar goals. The Wildcats actually controlled play with an 11-16 edge in shots and a 16-6 advantage in penalty corners.

Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001
Cape Henlopen 1, Delmar 0

The Wildcats' hopes for a fourth consecutive Henlopen Conference title disappeared with the loss to the dominating Vikings. Delmar fell to 5-2-1 in the conference and 7-2-1 overall while Cape rose to 8-0 in the confernce and 10-0 overall. Although Cape led 23-1 in shots and 19-4 in penalty corners, it couldn't score on Delmar goalie Kristen Wheatley until Maren Ford knocked in a corner with 2:20 left in the game. Wheatley stopped 18 shots in the contest.

Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001
Delmar 5, Polytech 1

The Wildcats got two goals from Danielle Twilley in the Henlopen Conference triumph. Brittany Elliott, Becca Gum and Ashley Campbell also scored for Delmar, which rose to 6-1-1. The Wildcats led 37-13 in shots and 17-4 in penalty corners. Kristen Wheatley had 9 saves for Delmar.

Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001
Delmar 2, Sussex Tech 1

The Wildcats continued to hold on to their winning streak in the Henlopen Conference with another close contest.

Delmar took its 2-1 lead at halftime and maintained it through the second half.

Becca Gum and Jen Hastings scored goals for the Wildcats at 12:04 and 10:14 of the first half. Brittany Elliott recorded an assist.

Dover 1, Delmar 0

The Wildcats' Henlopen Conference unbeaten streak increased to 52 games with the tie. Delmar led 3-2 late in the game but CR's Casey Howard scored to forge the tie. The tie was only the third the Wildcats have had in their streak. Becca Gum scored two goals and Brittany Elliott added the other as Delmar rose to 2-0-1 in the conference and overall. The Wildcats were outshot 17-9 and topped in penalty corners 13-5, but Kristen Wheatley kept them in the game with 9 saves in goal.

Delmar 3, Caesar Rodney 3

The Wildcats' Henlopen Conference unbeaten streak increased to 52 games with the tie. Delmar led 3-2 late in the game but CR's Casey Howard scored to forge the tie. Delmar 5, Laurel 2

The Wildcats remained unbeaten and recorded their 51st consecutive Henlopen Conference game without a loss with the win over their rivals.

The game was tied 2-2 in the first half but Delmar responded with goals by Brittany Elliott, Danielle Twilley and Rebecca Gum in the second half to pull out the win.

Elliott scored at 21:31, Twilley at 20:18 and Gum at 10:47 of the second half. Elliott and Gum also scored goals in the first half. Elliott registered an assist, as well.

The Wildcats outshot Laurel 14-10 and held a 23-5 advantage in penalty corners.

Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001
Delmar 1, Sussex Central 0

The Wildcats began the defense of their Henlopen Conference championship with a victory that extended their streak of regular season unbeaten games to 50.

Becca Gum scored the winning goal with 8:08 remaining in the second half and goalie Kristin Wheatley made it stand up with 19 saves including a stop on a penalty shot with 4:35 left in the game.

Wheatley's play saved the Wildcats in a game in which they had only 10 shots. The defense also stepped up at the end of the game when Sussex Central was awarded five consecutive penalty corners.

"Goalie Kristin Wheatley really stepped up her game today and took on the challenge of a talented Sussex Central team," said Delmar coach Linda Budd, whose team finished with seven penalty corners.

The Wildcats are 2-0 overall.

Delmar 10, Sts. Peter & Paul 0

Brittany Elliott and Jen Hastings pulled off the unlikely feat of scoring five goals apiece in the same game in the easy season-opening win for the Wildcats.

Delmar goalie Kristin Wheatley only had to make one save.
