The Indian River High School football team showed some promising signs in 2000 under head coach Jim Bunting.

Indian River fullback Johnny MeiklejohnThis year, the Indians hope to take that next step to challenging for the Henlopen Conference Southern Division title.

Giving rise to such optimism are experienced offensive and defensive linemen.

The Indians will have to replace graduated quarterback Joey Land but they return experience in the backfield in 225-pound fullback Johnny Meiklejohn and halfback Billy Hall.

Following is a capsule preview of the Indians' 2001 campaign.

Coach Bunting's Comments: "Our strengths are our offensive line and our experienced backfield. Our goals are to meet certain goals from 'Our Vision' Board. Our weaknesses are our leadership and defense. Our defensive unit needs improvement."
