After Losing Lead |
|
Laurel 28, Indian River 18
The Indian River football team had its season-high point total but lost an 11-point second period lead to remain winless. The Indians led 18-7 in the second quarter by capitalizing on Laurel mistakes with big plays. Down 7-0, the Indians scored on an 81-yard shovel pass from quarterback Ryan Warner to Brandon Tindley. The Indians then went ahead 12-7 in the second period when defensive back Billy Hall picked off a Laurel pass and raced 80 yards the other way for a touchdown. IR then took an 18-7 lead on a touchdown run by fullback Johnny Meiklejohn, who rushed for 72 yards on 13 carries. The Bulldogs came back in the second half, however, taking advantage of a blocked punt and an Indian River fumble. The Indians, now 0-3 in the Henlopen Conference Southern Division and 0-6 overall, visit Polytech on Friday, Oct. 26, in a nonconference game. FALL SPORTS 2001 INDEX | IR Index | Sports Index |
