Polytech 21, Indian River 20
The Indian River football team saw its best chance for its first win of the season slip away in the nonconference game. The Indians lost the game when a two-point conversion run by Akeem Wescott came up short after they had pulled within 21-20 with 6:50 remaining in the game. Fullback Johnny Meiklejohn scored the tochdown that brought the Indians within a point on a two-yard run. Meiklejohn rushed for 174 yards and all three IR touchdowns on 25 carries. The Indians battled back from a 21-6 deficit with a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns with a 51-second span. For Polytech, now 2-6 overall, it was the fourth time this season it has had a game decided by a single point. The Panthers lost their three previous one-point decisions. The Indians, now 0-7 overall, visit Seaford on Friday, Nov. 2, in a Henlopen Conference Southern Division game. Seaford is 1-3 in the South and 2-5 overall following a 40-10 loss to Woodbridge on Oct. 26. FALL SPORTS 2001 INDEX | IR Index | Sports Index |
