The Indian River football team saw its best chance for its first win of the season slip away in the nonconference game.

The Indians lost the game when a two-point conversion run by Akeem Wescott came up short after they had pulled within 21-20 with 6:50 remaining in the game.

Fullback Johnny Meiklejohn scored the tochdown that brought the Indians within a point on a two-yard run. Meiklejohn rushed for 174 yards and all three IR touchdowns on 25 carries.

The Indians battled back from a 21-6 deficit with a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns with a 51-second span.

For Polytech, now 2-6 overall, it was the fourth time this season it has had a game decided by a single point. The Panthers lost their three previous one-point decisions.

The Indians, now 0-7 overall, visit Seaford on Friday, Nov. 2, in a Henlopen Conference Southern Division game. Seaford is 1-3 in the South and 2-5 overall following a 40-10 loss to Woodbridge on Oct. 26.
