By roaring back from an 18-7 first half deficit with 21 unanswered points, the Bulldogs rose to 2-0 in the South and 3-3 overall. Laurel is tied with unbeaten Delmar for the South lead. With plenty of yardage but just a 2-yard touchdown run by Jamin Pugh to show for it, the Bulldogs started their comeback with a 3-yard TD run by Pugh that was set up by a 32-yard pass from quarterback Andy Hartstein to Jimmy Hartstein. Down 18-15 at halftime, the Bulldogs took the lead for good with a 15-play drive capped by Jermel Horsey's 10-yard touchdown run.
Jeff Downes led Laurel tacklers with five while Terren Hitchens and Jared Collins both recorded sacks. The Bulldogs fell behind with several miscues in the first half, including penalties, a fumble deep in their own territory, and an interception returned 80 yards for a touchdown by Indian River's Billy Hall. Laurel continues its quest for a Henlopen South title with a home game against Smyrna on Friday, Oct. 26, at 7:30 p.m. Smyrna defeated Seaford 32-16 on Oct. 19 behind standout running back Mike Pennewell's 274 yards rushing. Indian River dropped to 0-3 in the South and 0-5 overall. Laurel Index | Sports Index | News Index |
