The Golden Knights trounced Stephen Decatur to keep their hopes for an at-large state tournament berth alive.

The Knights, coming off a tough loss to Dover that seriously hurt their Henlopen Conference Northern Division title hopes, blew out their Maryland foes behind two touchdowns apiece from running backs Will James and Jonathan Ricketts.

Sussex Central is now 6-1 overall and would need to win all of its three remaining games to virtually assure itself of a second straight state tournament berth.

The Knights still have a shot at the Henlopen North crown, as well, if it can beat Caesar Rodney next week and rival Sussex Tech on Nov. 9 and unbeaten Dover stumbles in its remaining games.

The Knights made quick work of Stephen Decatur Friday night. They led 21-0 at halftime on a 4-yard run by Ricketts and runs of 1 and 4 yards by James.

They then dashed any Decatur hopes for a comeback with an 86-yard kickoff return by Andrew Weatherly to start the second half.

Ricketts also scored on a 53-yard interception return. The Knights' final score was a 5-yard run by Terron Hall.
