Hodgson in OT |
![]() |
Sussex Tech 14, Hodgson 13 (OT) Sussex Tech defensive end Jamil Trott Sussex Tech bounced back from a 13-7 deficit in overtime to nip Hodgson in a nonconference thriller.
"While we certainly have a long way to go, we continue to practice well," said Collick. "Sometimes when you can do that, it will at least allow you to compete and put yourself in position for a chance to win." With the game tied 7-7 at the end of regulation, Hodgson scored first in overtime. The Ravens' Jamil Trott, however, made perhaps the play of the game when he blocked the extra point. The Ravens came right back to tie the game 13-13 on a 9-yard pass from quarterback Marcus Morris to fullback Kevin Maull, who also scored Tech's first touchdown. Shawn Melvin's extra point kick then gave them the win. "You've got to get there (the chance to win) first," said Collick of Melvin's winning extra point. "And it's Jamil Trott's block of an extra point that gets us there. That put a different spin on things. We made the best of what could have been a bad situation when Jamil blocked that extra point. While the wind may be coming (out of your sails), it (block) still gives you some hope." Collick credited Melvin with being one of the team's hardest workers. "He kicks constantly," said Collick. "And we're fortunate to have a volunteer coach, Eric Swanson, working with him." Collick believes the Ravens are reaping the rewards of their hard work in the off-season and pre-season. "One of the things we do believe is that you've got to work," he said. "You've got to work to get out of a position you don't want to be in (losing streak). The kids are getting more familiar with what we're trying to accomplish and what we want from them."
