Sussex Tech 34, Indian River 12 Photo: Tech running back and linebacker Morgan Schirmer Sussex Tech continued its resurgence with the nonconference triumph to rise to 3-0 overall.
"Kevin is the kind of kid that if you get him running, he'll make some big plays and make some things happen," said Tech head coach Bill Collick. Shawn Evans and Morgan Schirmer scored Tech's other touchdowns on runs of 12 and 10 yards, respectively. The Ravens actually trailed the Indians before righting themselves. "Indian River did a nice job on us," said Collick. "They came after us pretty good. They scored first and we kind of answered and made some plays on special teams. I thought maybe we were back on our heels a little bit at first." The Raven offense, keyed by Maull and quarterback Marcus Morris, responded after the team fell behind and the defense, keyed by Jamie Tinley, Eddie Vicks, Tommy Shortridge and Zach Kauffman, shut the Indians down. "Defensively we continue to play well," said Collick. "As a collective group, they do a nice job." Collick recognizes that other teams will now be aware of his team's improvement as it enters its Henlopen Conference schedule. "Not to take anything away from anybody, but we're getting into the Henlopen Conference deal with Woodbridge, Cape Henlopen, Caesar Rodney and Dover, so we're going to find out a little more about ourselves," Collick said. Tech visits Woodbridge in a nonconference game on Friday, Sept. 28, at 7:30 p.m. Tech Fall 2001 Index | Tech Index | Sports Index |
